Netgear router setup with Laptop

Here we will describe Netgear router setup with Laptop in the following scenarios:

  • Netgear router setup with Laptop and cable internet (Genie interface) & and cable internet (Smart wizard interface)
  • Netgear router setup with Laptop and DSL internet (Genie interface) and DSL internet( Smart wizard interface)

Netgear router setup with Laptop

 

1.Netgear router setup with Laptop and cable internet (Genie interface)

First, reboot your modem and Netgear router. To reboot, first cut off the power supply for Modem and then Netgear router. After that use an ethernet cable. Connect this ethernet cable to your modem. Locate the port labeled as ‘internet’ on the Netgear router.

Now use another ethernet cable. Connect the second ethernet cable to your computer with the Netgear router. Locate the port labeled as ‘Lan’ on the Netgear router and connect the cable in this port.

Now power on your modem. Now, wait for the next few moments till the modem lights become stable. Then power on your Netgear router. Wait till next few moments till the green lights of the Netgear router become stable and green.

Now open the internet browser on your computer. Now type one of the following URL into the web browser bar:

www.routerlogin.com  |   www.routerlogin.net    |              http://192.168.1.1

Also verify on the Netgear router to decide the correct URL, in the case above mentioned URLs does not work. The correct URL will bring up the router login dialog box.

When the dialogues box appears. Login to the Netgear router user interface. Use the default username as ‘admin’  and default password as ‘password’.  Note: These passwords are case sensitive. Now the Netgear Genie setup wizard will display on-screen.

Now click on ‘advanced’ tab name and after that click on ‘setup wizard’, you will find in the left sidebar. After this, if you want to Netgear detect your internet connection. click on ‘yes’ prompt and then click on ‘next’. Now the setup wizard will take a few moments to scan your internet connection.  you will see a page displaying ‘congratulations’ when the Netgear router will complete its detection.

Now to test if your Netgear router is configured to use your internet service, click on ‘take me to the internet’.

2. Netgear router setup with Laptop and cable internet (Smart wizard interface)

 

In the first step use an ethernet cable. Connect this ethernet cable to your modem. Locate the port name as ‘internet’ on the Netgear router and connect both modem and Netgear router using this cable. Now use another cable. Connect the computer using the ethernet cable with the Netgear router.  Locate the port name ‘Lan’ on Netgear router to connect the cable.

After this reboot all of three devices. First computer and then modem and after that Netgear router in sequence. Now power on all of three computer, modem, and Netgear router. Wait for next few moments till the time all of the three devices are full power on. Verify if the lights of the modem are stabilized. Also, the Netgear router’s lights become green.

3.Netgear router setup with Laptop and DSL internet (Genie interface)

 

In the first step, connect your Netgear router with your telephone jack. Use your DSL microfilter to do this. After this connect the telephone with DSL microfilter. for this use a small telephone wire. Now connect your computer with Netgear router. Use an ethernet cable and insert the cable into the port name as ‘Lan’ on your Netgear router.

Note: You will see that the DSL microfilter is a small box. This box connects both your router and telephone to the telephone jack.

After this power on the Netgear router. Connect the Netgear router with the power unit. It will take approx one minute to boot up. Now you are ready to open a web browser. Launch a web browser of your choice. The Netgear Genie setup wizard will automatically display on-screen.  In case Netgear Genie setup wizard fails to display. Then enter one of the following into the address bar of the Web browser:

http://192.168.0.1     |     http://www.routerlogin.net

This will take you to the Netgear Genie setup wizard. Click on ‘Yes’ if you want that Netgear router configures your internet. Now click on ‘next’. Now you will be able to access your internet service provider network. Type the username and password supplied by your ISP into the fields provided, then click on ‘Next’. Contact your ISP directly if you need help obtaining the username and password for your network.

Now to test if your Netgear router is configured to use your internet service, click on ‘take me to the internet’. Your Netgear router will now be configured for use with your ISP.

4. Netgear router setup with Laptop and DSL internet( Smart wizard interface)

Now apply the detected network settings which Netgear router has done. It will let Netgear router complete its configuration process. After this, the login and password proved by your Internet service provider. Enter the login credentials provided by your ISP if using the PPPoE or PPPoA connection type.

Click on ‘Apply’, if you are using dynamic connection type. After this enter your IP address. The IP subnet mask primary DNS, and secondary DNS if using an IP over ATM or fixed IP connection type. This information must be supplied to you by your internet service provider.

To apply the done settings, click on ‘Apply’. Your Netgear router will now be configured for use with your ISP.
